DELRAY BEACH TO FIGHT STATE REMOVAL OF PRIDE MURAL CROSSWALK

Delray Beach officials have responded to the Florida Department of Transportation's removal of the city's Pride mural crosswalk.  State workers painted over a part of the city's intersection around 2:30 AM Tuesday while Florida Highway Patrol units secured the area.
Just days earlier, the city filed a motion to disqualify the state employee who has been overseeing the case.  The city had previously been told by the FDOT to paint over the crosswalk or risk losing state funding due to new regulations.
By a 3-1 vote, the City Commission voted to join Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach in petitioning the Division of Administrative Hearings for relief.  Mayor Tom Carney was the only "no" vote.
City Manager Terrence Moore told commissioners that FDOT acknowledged the painting done "did not work out very well" and offered to come back to the location to perform hydro blasting or sandblasting.
