DELRAY COMMISSION DOES AN ABOUT FACE: DROPS CROSSWALK FIGHT AGAINST FDOT
The city of Delray Beach has dropped its legal action against the Florida Department of Transportation regarding its ban on a street walk crosswalk. Just two days after a 3-1 vote had the city joining with Fort Lauderdale and moving forward to challenge the FDOT, the City Commission voted 4-1 to withdraw its petition. Vice Mayor Rob Long was the only commission member to vote against the motion.
On June 30, FDOT issued an order directing municipalities to remove street art that could be viewed as "social, political or ideological in nature." It further stated that failure to comply could result in a withholding of state funds.
